The Hungarian Brunette Essie Millionails primer strengthening nail treatment review

This week for beauty Wednesday, I wanna talk about something I love, but have never talked about on here before: Nails. Or more specifically, doing my own nails at home. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen me share what my nails look like on my stories on a few occasions. And you also know that I don’t really get my nails done in salons. I’d much rather do them myself, at home.

In fact, I can count on one hand the times I got my nails done at a salon. Because it happened twice. Once in Hungary (french tip acrylics - no shade, I was 15) and once in Santa Monica with my sister-in-law, more than 10 years later (bright pink nail polish).

There are 2 reasons why I love doing my own nails. First, I don’t really like the look of acrylics. I feel like they look so thick and fake, and they just remind me of those drugstore press-on nails. Obviously you do you, whatever makes you feel good, they’re just not for me personally. Secondly, since I’m only gonna get nail polish anyways, I really don’t see the point in paying someone to do what I can do myself quite well.

Yes, a salon manicure lasts a bit longer than an at-home manicure. But most of the time, I get bored after a week or so, and want to take it off anyway. The only thing I absolutely love about a salon manicure is the pampering. Like the warm towel, the hand massage… Ahhhhh, it just feels so good. I’m also a super tactile person and I just love being touched. Not in a weird way (LMAO) but like, I’m in heaven when someone gives me a massage, scratches my back or scalp, plays with my hair, etc.

But enough on that… What I want to share today is at once a beauty tip and a product review.

You guessed it, I’m talking about the Essie Millionails primer. Millionails is a strengthening nail treatment that you apply as a primer (or base coat) before applying your nail polish. It claims to “help protect nails from breaking and resist splitting.

I discovered it recently while doing some research, because my nails, although they’ve always been strong and hard, had been breaking a lot lately. I feel like this is due in part to not having a dishwasher here (aka scrubbing dishes on the daily) and also to my active SoCal lifestyle. Think camping in the desert, beach days, etc.

I’ve been trusting Essie with my nail situation for years, so I obviously started my research there. I found Millionails, got it right away (on Amazon), and 2 days later, it was here for me to try.

Which brings me to the beauty tip part of this post: Always use a treatment as a base coat. I don’t care which one you use, but use one. Simply put, if you’re gonna put nail polish on your nails, you might as well take an extra minute and make sure they’re getting stronger and healthier at the same time. I honestly never did before now, and it makes an incredible difference. Here’s how:

Stronger nails that grow faster

Ok, so I don’t know if my nails actually grow faster, or if it seems like they do because they don’t break, but either way, the end result is the same. I started using mine about a month ago, and I’ve had to CUT (actually, file) my nails twice! Usually, one of them would be bound to break at least once a week, resulting in me filing down all of them, because no one wants to have 4 long-ass nails and one stubby little piece of shit nail, right?!

Now that I use Millionails, I’ve had one nail break, once. In a whole month. And still, I’ve had to file them down twice, and they’re currently at my preferred length. I have to say, I also take a biotin supplement, which helps make my nails harder and stronger (read the full deets here, in my post about supplements) but I took them way before I started using Millionails, so I know the difference is due to Millionails.

Manicures last longer & look better

Not only are my nails longer and stronger now, with way fewer breakage, but my manicures also look WAY better. You know when you apply nail polish and you can still see the little annoying ridges in your nails? With Millionails, no more. My nails now look super sleek and smooth, after 2 coats of nail polish, and I don’t even have to buffer them… Which I hate doing because I feel like it makes them thinner and weaker.

Also, I’ve noticed that my manicures last a lot longer when I use it as a base coat. Think at least a week with zero chipping.

I guess it’s obvious that I’m fully in love with Millionails, and I cannot recommend it enough. This is absolutely not sponsored, and I purchased my own bottle myself. You can get yours by clicking the picture right here on the right >>>

What about you guys? Do you have any miracle manicure products to recommend? I would love to know what you guys use and what has worked out for you! If you leave a comment below, please also tell me what you prefer between nail polish and acrylics!
