If you live on planet Earth, you probably feel like there's a new beauty/wellness trend every other day. And I'll admit I'm guilty of wanting to try them all! As a blogger, it's kinda part of my job to try new things and report back... But I'm also someone who really loves trying new things, so I'm really not complaining! One of the beauty trends I tried and LOVED in 2018 is facial cupping.

If you don't know what traditional cupping is, it's basically using suction cups to "pull" the blood to the surface of the skin. It therefore increases blood flow, bringing more oxygen to your skin. Traditional cupping is usually performed on the back and arms, and can be used to get rid of pain, (and sports injuries) just like a massage... It also leaves circular bruises where the cups were applied.

Facial cupping is a similar principle, except obviously, it doesn't leave bruises. Like, no one wants bruises on their face, am I right?! The main difference with traditional cupping (and the reason why it doesn't bruise) is because as opposed to being left on the skin for a long time, the cups are always moving, and they're applying a light suction.

The set I use is THIS ONE, from Amazon, and it's only about $10. It includes 4 suction cups in 2 sizes, used for different areas of the face, and a textured cleansing pad. While I don't use the pad to exfoliate my face on the daily, I looove using it to remove a stubborn face mask. The set also comes with a leaflet, showing you exactly where and how to apply suction, and what movements to make.

But aside from how it works, let's talk about the thing that truly matters, shall we? AKA, what does it do, and what are the benefits of facial cupping?

The Benefits of Facial Cupping

Since I've started facial cupping in January, I've been doing it about twice a week - sometimes more... And I LOVE IT! I'm honestly hooked, and I've noticed some serious benefits. Out of the super long list of benefits attributed to facial cupping, here are the main ones I've noticed:

GLOWING, YOUTHFUL SKIN. While I'm lucky to not have many wrinkles and fine lines (thanks, oily skin!), I still have a few here and there that are slightly bothering me. But since I've been doing facial cupping regularly, I feel like they're less noticeable... Or at least not getting worst. But the main difference I've seen is how glowing my skin looks on the day of/the day after cupping. As I mentioned earlier, facial cupping increases blood flow right under the surface of the skin... Which brings more oxygen to your skin, and makes your face feel refreshed. When I'm done with cupping, I feel like my skin feels supple and plump.

DECREASES PUFFINESS. Facial rollers are super popular for decreasing puffiness, but facial cupping also does an amazing job. I like to do facial cupping in the morning, and then follow-up with my ICE ROLLER or my FACIAL MASSAGER (both also from Amazon, and about $10). I also feel like my face is less puffy in the morning when I drank a TON of water the night before. If you don't drink enough water, you have to step your game up! You can start by reading my 3 tips for drinking more water (+ some incredibly cute bottles).

RELAX TENSE AND SORE FACIAL MUSCLES. So, as I said earlier, traditional cupping helps to relieve some muscular pain related to sports. Well, the same thing goes for the face. I sometimes have pain under my eyes, in the sinuses area, and I find that facial cupping helps tremendously! Also, just like a facial massage, it's super relaxing and makes my skin feel SO rejuvenated. Seriously though, if you're a fan of facial massage and facial rollers, you're gonna LOVE facial cupping!

RELIEVES HEADACHES & SINUS CONGESTIONS. At first, I was SO skeptical about this one... But I have to admit I changed my mind! I don't get as many headaches as I used to - probably because I drink a lot more water now. But when it happens, facial cupping helps make it go away much quicker. I also love doing it when I'm sick and feel like I can't breathe, because it really gives me relief, even if it's only temporary.

Overall, I feel like facial cupping really makes a difference in the appearance of my skin. It also makes me feel good, and it's a "trend" I'm fully on board with. I'll for sure keep doing it, because it really work well for me.

If you decide to try it, please just make sure to do your research before, and don't go all out on your first try. I love sharing what works for me, but not everyone's the same... And I'm not a doctor.

Also, it's super important to use a great oil when doing facial cupping, to make sure that the cups glide easily, as to not damage and overstretch the skin. I still haven't found one I'm crazy about, so I usually do it with facial cleanser, while I wash my face. But I'd love to use a great oil, so if you guys have any recs, I would love for you to leave your fave facial oil in the comments below so I can check it out!
