HOW I PREP MY LIPS FOR MAKEUP + COLOURPOP LIPPIE SET REVIEW (Get Ready To Rub-A-Dub-Dub!!)

The Hungarian Brunette Coloupop Lippie Scrub and Lippie balm review (4 of 7).jpg

It’s pretty clear at this point that I have an obsession with lip products. Even if you’re relatively new to the blog, you might have noticed that I reviewed 2 lip products in the past month - The Nars oil-infused lip gloss and the new Laneige Glowy lip balm, to be specific. And I wish I could say I’m sorry about so much lip-focused content… But truth is, I’m not! There are so many new amazing lip product releases this season, that it would be ridiculous not to mention a few favourites. In that spirit, I also have a post on my 5 favourite lip glosses of the season coming up, so definitely stay tuned for that if you’re a gloss gal.

But for now, I wanted to talk about a lip duo that isn’t necessarily new (but is new to me) and that I’ve been using like crazy to prep my lips for makeup. I’m obviously talking about the Colourpop Lippie Set, that includes the Lippie Balm and the Lippie Scrub.

I got mine in the flavour called “By the bushel” which is basically just strawberry, and in the most delicious way. Seriously though, I can’t talk about this product without mentioning how f*cking fantastic it tastes. It has a super sweet, super fragrant, sugary strawberry smell and taste, that really reminds me of candy. If you have a sweet tooth, this is going to be the highlight of your makeup routine, lol.

It also comes in a bunch of equally delicious-sounding flavours like Coco Loco (coconut) and Razzle Dazzle (raspberry). Surprise surprise, I want both, ha!!

Before moving on to how I include it in my makeup routine to get the softest, most plump lips I’ve ever had, I want to tell you a little more about the scrub and balm.

Let’s start with the scrub: There’s way more to it than just the amazing flavour. I love how the texture is gritty enough, but not too stiff either. The only other lip scrub I had ever tried before this one was mostly just sugar with a few drops of essential oil, and it felt super dry on the lips. This one feels like it gets the job done in terms of exfoliation, without feeling like you’re rubbing old, tired sand paper on your lips. Simply put, I’m in love with it.

Now about the lip balm: The texture is slightly thicker than what I’m used to. It’s not sticky, per se, but it’s THICK. Which makes it super hydrating and long-lasting, but a tiny bit less comfortable to wear than some thinner lip balms. for that reason, I usually don’t use this balm throughout the day, because I truly enjoy a more slippery feeling. But what I do LOVE to use it for is prepping my lips in the morning. Here’s exactly what I do:

When I’m about to do my makeup, I always brush my teeth. Then, right after, I plop my finger in the lip scrub and rub whatever amount gets stuck to it on my lips… A little goes a long way. I’m a little extreme and I like to rub it until my lips are a little bit red and starting to swell a bit.

And no, this isn’t due to major irritation, it’s actually just promoting blood circulation in the lips. Once I’m done, I dab a paper towel on my lips to remove the excess lip scrub, and I just lick the remainder away. Yum!!

I then apply my primer, foundation and setting powder, wipe whatever amount of product got on my lips off, and apply a nice coat of the Lippie balm all over my lips.

By the time I’m done with my makeup, my lips are looking juicy, plump and hydrated, and they’re ready AF for whatever lipstick/lip gloss I’m putting on that day.

As someone with incredibly dry lips no matter the season, this combo has been a life-saver and I’m sooo glad I found it.

You can get both products on Colourpop’s website, the lip scrub being $8 and the lip balm $6… But you can also get the bundle, like I did, for $12.

OR if you want to use THIS LINK, you can get 20% off your order. I’m not a Colourpop affiliate, and I don’t make any money out of you using this code. I just got it when I placed my last Colourpop order, and thought I would share it with you guys, because who doesn’t like a good discount code, especially if it’s to save 20%?!?

Who else here loves a good lip scrub? Do you guys prep your lips before doing your makeup? I feel like it’s such an important step, and I can’t live without it now. I swear, try it. You won’t be disappointed!!

Love you guys,

Jenny xx
