Guys, Happy Wednesday! I can't believe it's already Wednesday. This week is going by SO fast! I was sick on the weekend so I had a TON of work to catch up on on Monday, and yesterday I had a shoot in the morning, which always makes the day fly by so quickly.

Today, for Beauty Wednesday, I decided to review the Kat Von D Lock-It foundation and concealer. They were sent to me by the brand, and I have to be honest, I didn't think I was gonna like them at first. I had heard very mixed reviews about the brand, and even though I do have tattoos myself, I've never been a huge fan of Kat Von D. I don't dislike her, I just don't love her. Basically, I just have no opinion about her persona specifically. So I wasn't as excited as, let's say, when Marc Jacobs sent me 2 of their Enamored lip gloss sticks. But that kind of changed when I received the package.

The first thing that I noticed when I opened the box was how beautiful the packaging is. I had never considered Kat Von D to be a luxury brand, but their packaging honestly says otherwise. I'm especially in love with the foundation's packaging. It has a super practical pump on top, that makes the amount of foundation really easy to control. So you don't waste any product, which is a big plus. Packaging aside, here's what I thought about both the foundation and the concealer.

Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation

The most noticeable thing about the Kat Von D Lock-It foundation is how covering it is. But strangely enough, it doesn't create a cake-face look, which is my worst makeup pet peeve... And actually rare for a full-coverage foundation. When I tested it, I wore it alone, by itself and I was SO surprised by how much coverage it provides. Not only does it unify the complexion, but I also tested it on my tattoo, and was surprised to see how easy it was to make it disappear. Honestly, it's that good! I usually mix my foundation with this highlighting moisturizer for a sheer, glowy look. But since I wanted to see exactly how the Kat Von D Lock-It foundation performs, I used it on its own. Let's just say a little goes a looooog way, and it doesn't look heavy on the skin AT ALL.

I also have to say that it was the absolute perfect colour for me, which I wasn't expecting, since I picked it from a tiny swatch, online. I was very pleasantly surprised, because I'm really picky when it comes to foundation colour. Like the next worst thing after a full cake-face is a face that's a different shade than your neck. Just no. This one not only matched my skin perfectly, but it's also super easy to blend. I (almost) always apply foundation with my fingers only, so it's not like I'm using some fancy blending brushes either.

The only thing I was a little disappointed about was the longevity of the Kat Von D Lock-It foundation. It's supposed to last 24 hours... It didn't. I applied it at 6am, before a shoot, and when I came home at 1pm, I could notice it wasn't perfect anymore. Not all smudged and cakey by any means, but a little more patchy than when I applied it a few hours before. To be fair, I have oily skin, and making foundation last all day is my biggest beauty struggles. I guess I just thought this foundation would solve it, and it didn't. I did use a primer before, but I'm wondering if it would have worked better with the matching Kat Von D Lock-It primer. Because I love everything else about it, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt on this aspect.

Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer

As much as I was impressed and pleased with the foundation, the concealer was just OK to me. I feel like if I was to repurchase this, I would probably only get the foundation, to be honest. I mean the concealer isn't bad, and I feel like it would definitely be good to hide blemishes under the foundation. But for the under-eye region, which is really the only place I like to apply concealer, it's kind of meh. First of all, it's very matte, just like the foundation. I personally like a tiny bit of glow under the eyes, I feel like it's WAY more flattering. I also feel like it was creasing a little under my eyes, creating the aspect of tiny little wrinkles.

On the plus side, it does feel light, and not heavy on the skin. It also blend really well, just like the foundation does. The shape of the applicator is also cool (see below), and I feel like it makes the concealer way easier to apply.

Even though I didn't love it for my under-eyes, it's something I would use if I ever get a blemish and want to hide it without doing a full face of makeup.

Lastly, I have to mention one really important thing... All of Kat Von D's products are cruelty-free and vegan. Which means that, first, they're not tested on animals. And they also don't contain any animal-derived products. I'm not vegan myself, but I feel like encouraging companies that don't test cosmetics on animals is really important. In 2018, there's really no excuse that justifies testing on animals. I'm really paying attention to this now, and making the conscious decision to slowly switch to an all cruelty beauty routine. I'll see how that goes and keep you guys posted on this!

What about you guys, did you try the Kat Von D Lock-It foundation or concealer? What did you think? Do you have any other faves from Kat Von D? Let me know in the comments section below!

Wishing all of you a great rest of the week!
