OOTD: FRENCH GIRL BOWS & RED PUMPS FOR (ALMOST) SPRING
Hi guys, happy Tuesday! It’s been a while since I haven’t done an outfit post, and there’s a simple reason… I’ve been really into creating some beauty content lately, and working on a new YouTube channel, so I haven’t really had time to go out and shoot some outfits. But I do have a lot of new clothes to style, so I will be resuming the outfit posts soon, because they’re some of my favourites to do. After all, your girl didn’t study fashion design and fashion marketing for nothing, ha!
Since the weather has been crazy warm in LA lately (it’s full on Spring, yay!!) I thought I would share this Spring look with you guys. I know it’s still full-on Winter in a lot of parts of the world, and I’ll have more Winter fashion coming up soon… But I thought it would be fun to dive into Spring for a bit, especially after all these Mexico looks I’ve been posting lately.
These pictures were actually shot last Fall in Manhattan Beach, and the fun thing is, I still love and wear every single one of these pieces. In fact, I would wear this exact outfit to a meeting, a brunch, or any event that requires me to look polished, without looking too dressed up. I love that it’s playful and girly, with the red heels and the bows, but still looks put together with the black pants and the high neckline. I’m also a big fan of the “French girl” nod that the ribbon brings.
But one of my favourite things about this outfit is that everything is super affordable. The pumps are from Zara - they’re from a few seasons ago, so I linked some similar options below. The pants are also from Zara, and I feel like they were around $20, which is also super cheap for great denim.
But the best piece in the budget-friendly category is definitely the t-shirt. It’s $12.99 on Amazon, and I feel like that’s really hard to beat for a tee with some detailing like the bows. It fits pretty well and it’s soft enough - it definitely doesn’t feel cheap. It’s also quite long, so you can tuck it in high-wasted AND low-wasted pants, or wear it outside of your bottoms, no matter what your style is.
I’m wearing a size Small (the smallest they had), and I usually wear an XS or XXS (whatever the smallest size available is), so I would definitely recommend sizing up with this top.
If you’re a regular on THB, you probably already know that I’m a huge fan of simple basics with an unexpected detail or a fun touch (like this asymmetrical hem, these cutouts, or these bows). I feel like when you’re getting dressed on a day-to-day basis, you don’t always want to reach for a statement piece like a super busy print or a dramatic bell sleeve… Sometimes you just want pieces that are easy to wear and versatile.
But to me, dressing in basic blue jeans with a plain black t-shirt is a little… Plain. Not that there’s anything wrong with that if that’s your style. But for me, I like to look like I made an effort and thought out my outfit, even if I didn’t. So details like bows and frills really take a basic piece and turn it into something more interesting.
Same goes for the red pumps. I feel like just regular red suede pumps are super chic and versatile, but I really liked the X-shaped stripes on these ones. Since the heel is pretty high (4"), I find that the straps also help with balance, as they keep your foot firmly in place.
What do you guys think about this outfit? Is it something you would wear? I’m also curious to know… What’s your favourite detail on a garment? Is it bows, ribbons, embroideries, tassels, rhinestones… What makes you heart sing?
Love you guys!!
