OOTD: GREY OTK BOOTS + DISTRESSED DENIM SKIRT
My favourite fashion season has always been Fall. I feel like in the Summer, it’s so hot you don’t even want to wear clothes, and in the Winter (at least in Montreal, where I grew-up) it’s SO COLD that you really don’t care if you look like the Michelin Man. I love layering and sweaters and scarves… But I also love wearing skirts and dresses. Preferably minis. I think I have one midi skirt that I bought when I worked at a law firm, and it’s the only longer skirt I still wear, because it’s cute, and it was expensive lol.
But I’m always cold, so wearing a mini in the Fall is kind of risky. Unless you’re sporting my favourite boots, the over-the-knee boots. I’ve been obsessed with over-the-knee boots for as long as I can remember, because I feel like they’re just SO badass and sexy. They also make any outfit look elevated almost instantly, which is a huge plus.
I used to have the most gorgeous OTK boots from Guess, that I had to throw out because I forgot them in the trunk of my car, and then something leaked on them and THEY WERE COVERED WITH MOLD. I cried over these boots, I really did. They were black leather, laced-up in the front, with a few buckles. They were GORGEOUS and such a statement piece and they looked like BDSM meets high-fashion. They were just the best and I got compliments every time I wore them.
Since then, I never owned another pair of over-the-knee boots.
This year, for Black Friday, Sasha said he would get a pair of boots, and I immediately knew I wanted some OTK boots. Since I already have black knee-high boots, I wanted to try a different colour, so I went with grey, because it’s different but still goes with everything.
For my first time wearing them, I wanted to go with a total grey outfit, just because it’s something I could never do before. I didn’t wanna just wear them with black, you know.
So I got this old sweater out from the bottom of my closet, this new distressed denim skirt (From Forever 21’s kids department), a black belt and called it a day.
This is definitely a simple outfit, but I love it because it’s super comfy and understated, but still looks like I tried… At least a little. Plus, these boots are seriously so comfortable, this is the perfect outfit to run some errands. Christmas shopping, anyone?
I got these at Aldo, which is a Montreal-based company (where I grew up). When I was a teenager, Aldo was EVERYWHERE, but I never really paid attention because I was all about the designer shoes dreams. I was super surprised the first time I came to LA to see that they were everywhere, and quite popular at that!
Now that I’m definitely more savvy with my money (and I also don’t have as much disposable income as I had when I was living at my parents’ and working full-time), I actually love Aldo, and I feel like their quality has really taken a step-up over the last few years… As I mentioned, these boots are super comfy, and I love that it’s a 3-inch heel. I would never go below that, but with my knee problems, it’s become really hard for me to wear the 4+ inch heels I love so much.
So these are a really compromise, especially because they don’t look like one. I wore them the whole day and walked around a lot, and at night, I almost wanted to keep them on for a night out, but opted for flats instead - and no knee pain the next day. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, you know?
What do you guys think about the over-the-knee boots, and how many pairs do you have? I feel like the next boots I buy are gonna be brown or snakeskin booties… What about you??
Love, Jenny xx
